Discover the Timeless Elegance of Liberty Hall Historic Site

Explore the Historic Grounds

Nestled on the banks of the beautiful Kentucky River, the Liberty Hall Historic Site is a National Historic Landmark offering a serene escape into history. With nearly five acres of well-maintained public gardens that have flourished for over two centuries, this site is perfect for history buffs and nature lovers alike. Here, visitors can witness the legacy of U.S. Senator John Brown, the "father of Kentucky statehood," through the two historic houses—the 1796 Liberty Hall and the 1835 Orlando Brown House. These homes are adorned with original Brown family furnishings, portraits, textiles, and more, offering a captivating glimpse into the past.

Historic Gardens

Behind Liberty Hall, a charming four-square garden, lined with brick and boxwood paths, welcomes visitors with extensive flower beds that recall early American formal gardens. This historically inspired garden features flowers and shrubs mentioned in family papers and incorporates native Kentucky plants, making it a delightful visual and fragrant experience. For those seeking tranquility, Mother's Garden—a woodland garden honoring mother figures—provides a serene escape, while Euphemia’s Butterfly Garden serves as a haven for pollinators and butterflies, offering a vibrant, seasonal spectacle.
