Research

Yew Dell’s research focuses on seeking out the best plants for regional gardens and landscapes. Searching for plants with outstanding ornamental appeal, excellent adaptability to the region’s climate, and superior pest resistance, Yew Dell staff travel all over Kentucky, across North America, and around the world to bring in the widest possible array of plants for rigorous evaluation. Formal evaluation gardens (one for woody shrubs and one for herbaceous perennials) allow staff and visitors alike to compare many varieties for garden performance, winter hardiness, invasiveness potential, and more.

The best performing varieties out of research evaluations are put into production for sales through Yew Dell’s on site and online Plant Market and are promoted through the Theodore Klein Plant Awards program.
