Yew Dell Botanical Gardens is an internationally recognized and award-winning center of plants, gardens, research, and education that sits on the only National Register-recognized historic landscape in Kentucky. Diverse display gardens offer something in bloom 12 months of the year. Ever-expanding plant collections are constantly evaluated to identify the best-adapted plants for regional gardens and landscapes. Education programs from lectures to hands-on workshops cover everything from garden techniques to plant ID, natural systems investigations and nature/garden inspired crafts. Summer concerts, holiday-themed festivals and seasonal plant sales round out a full and engaging year.
During a visit you can enjoy a woodland hike, a stroll through the evaluation garden plots, a spin through the Fairy Forest, a meal at Martha Lee’s Kitchen, or simply sit and take in the beauty and history of the property. And between Yew Dell’s on-site and event plant sales and the online Plant Market, gardeners can find hundreds of varieties of plants for purchase to enhance their own gardens.
Yew Dell is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and was listed by Horticulture Magazine as one of the Top 10 Destination Gardens in the US. Yew Dell’s visitor center/gift shop, horticulture center, Mary F. Rounsavall event pavilion, and Gheens Barn/Peyton Samuel Head Trust Pavilion were all designed by the Louisville firm of de Leon & Primmer Architecture Workshop, and all four projects, when completed, were awarded the KY-AIA’s top design honor for architectural excellence. With the solar/geothermal glasshouse, green roof installation, surface water capture and reuse/recycling system, low energy footprint production nursery facilities, and minimal pesticide practice, Yew Dell offers constant examples of the real-world potential of highly sustainable business practices. Yew Dell staff are recognized locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally as leaders in their fields.
